Pattern Punctuations

Pin pricked drawings on handmade paper, 2024
27 cm x 27 cm each (20 nos.)

This series is a quiet meditation on texture, light, and impermanence. Composed of delicate pin-pricked tile patterns on white paper, the work strips away excess, reducing the form to its most essential elements—punctuations of light and shadow. The absence of color allows the interplay of depth and surface to become the focal point, evoking both presence and erasure. The act of piercing paper is repetitive yet intentional, mirroring the laborious craftsmanship of traditional Athangudi tiles while transforming them into something ephemeral. These works explore the fleeting nature of pursuing materialistic possessions, which is what the tiles have come to symbolize for me. Here, pattern is no longer just decoration—it becomes a language of subtlety, where what is felt is just as important as what is seen. The shifting light alters perception, dissolving and revealing form, echoing the transient nature of the material world.
